GABRIEL MORERA

Biography
Gabriel Morera (Madrid, 1933) first attended the Academia de San Fernando where he studied drawing. In the late fifties he moved to Venezuela and immediately entered the artistic circle in Caracas. In 1961 he joined the emblematic artistic group El Techo de la Ballena -The Roof of the Whale- and became one of its leading figures, exhibiting his series of paintings Cabezas Filosóficas -Philosophical Heads-.
Through the Mac Dowell Colony he received a grant to study in the USA, spending the years 1963 to 1967 in New York, after which he returned to Caracas. From then until 2001 he taught in the two most important art schools in Venezuela whilst regularly exhibiting until moving to Ibiza. He has had numerous exhibitions in Venezuela, New York and Spain.
